Pi Day is an annual math holiday on March 14. This numerical date was selected because the digits of Pi are 3.14. There are many different ways to celebrate Pi Day in the elementary classroom. Let’s look at four Pi Day Activities you can use with your students.
1. Pi Day Math Activities
Students can complete differentiated activities to show how Pi relates to the real world. Students will learn about the history of Pi, the number Pi, how to use Pi, and much more. Topics reviewed include operations, fractions, measurement, geometry, data, line plots, and more.

3. Pi Day Read Aloud
This Pi Day Math Read Aloud is “Sir Cumference and the Fraction Faire” by Cindy Neuschwander. The book is not included in the Math Read Aloud packet. You can purchase the book separately HERE.
The Math Read Aloud packet includes comprehension questions, discussion questions, activities, teacher directions, and a read aloud report. “Sir Cumference and the Fraction Faire” is a great book to read in your math class. Students make real world connections with fractions in the land of Fracton.
It’s also a great way to introduce the topic of fractions. This activity will review what a numerator and denominator are, how they work, and what ordering fractions means. Students will find errors in how people thought fractions worked and spark math conversations about how fractions really work.
